The hedgehog, when you think of this animal, an image of a small mammal covered in spines comes to mind, but did you know they make perfect pets. They are incredibly friendly, calm, low maintenance pets. Hedgehogs are nocturnal and when they feel threatened, they may hiss and then roll into a fist-sized ball, it is part of their charm. They primarily eat insects, but often will eat whatever is available making them easy to please with commercial pet foods and fruits and veggies.
With an average life span of 4 to 6 years in the wild, consider that a pet Hedgehog can live up to 10 years. Hedgehogs also require particular care and attention, and not all veterinarians are capable of treating hedgehogs so do your research before deciding on one of these adorable critters as your next pet.
